This was a 25 minute contemporary dance show at The Samuel Beckett Theatre, performed by Dan Canham. 30 Cecil Street is a derelict building in Limerick has a long history stretching back 150 years known to many as the Theatre Royal. It had also served as an art college, cinema, bingo hall, a live band venue and night club.
Recording sounds from the building, creaking doors and stairs, shuffling of feet, and recording of the voices of employees and patrons of 30 Cecil Street with a fragmented sound track. Dan created a sound track to which he performs a dance piece.
Performed in a black box with only a table and the recorder, Dan begins to mark out various spaces on the stage using a roll of white tape, gradually the complexity of the dance increase. It was a nice piece just about the right length to maintain my attention.
