Photographer Erik Johansson creates an illusion using perspective and vantage points.

I came across an interesting website yesterday of a Swedish photographer and retouch artist Erik Johansson.

In this You tube clip he made a street illusion called “Mind your step” at Sergels torg square in the heart of Stockholm, it plays tricks with perspective and vantage points creating an illusion of a void or canyon in the square.

It was good to see the interaction of the public to this piece of art, it would be wonderful to see more of this type of work commissioned in Ireland. I would love to hear you views on this.

  1. Hi Tom
A great idea. Sky Arts had a great little series recently about street artist Julian Beever’s work – see

It involves passers-by right through the process, and at the end the public really loved this kind of illusion.

There seems to be a thing about trompe l’oeils in the south of France too, and here’s a slightly more unusual technique from a show in Montpellier in the south of France. Check out its “floating chair”
