Jimmy Hendrix ‘All Is by My Side’, without any original Hendrix music.

Filming is coming to an end on the Jimmy Hendrix movie All Is by My Side‘  The one thing is will not feature is any original music by the legendary guitarist. A hectic filming schedule in night clubs and other venues around Dublin provides the background for Hendrix’s life in London between 1966 and the mid 70’s including a scene in the Olympia Theatre with over 500 extras.

Experience Hendrix LLC controlled by Hendrix sister Janie has refused permission to feature any of the guitarists original songs, and  issued a statement warning it ‘has made it known many times in the past that no such film, were it to include original music or copyrights created by Jimi Hendrix, can be undertaken without its full participation’.

Instead, the soundtrack will only feature covers such as The Beatles Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, Bob Dylan’s All Along The Watchtower, among others.

The film is co-produced by Irish company Subotica Entertainment, producer Sean McKittrick claims he never even approached the Hendrix family for permission and that he never wanted to use the songs anyway, instead focusing on Jimi’s early career.

The film is written and directed by John Ridley, who’s His novel, Stray Dogs, was made into the feature film U Turn directed by Oliver Stone and he wrote the story for the 1999movie Three Kings  starring George Clooney and Mark Wahlberg.

André 3000 plays the leading role and also includes newcomer Danny McColgan, son of Riverdance director John McColgan and producer Moya Doherty, who will play Eric Clapton, musician and friend of Hendrix.

Other Irish crew include Cinematographer Tim Fleming, Prop Buyer Sarah Kingston and Make-up Artist Deirdre Fitzgerald.
