The movie finally gets the go ahead after the signing of a co-production treaty between Ireland and Luxembourg which will enable the €7.5 million project to be green lit.
Gleeson had the novel adapted for the big screen and is expected to direct and star in the movie, along with other Irish Hollywood stars, Gabriel Byrne, Colin Farrell and Cillian Murphy
At Swim Two Birds was first published in 1939 by Irish journalist Brian O’Nolan, under the pseudonym Flann O’Brien. The novel was included in Time Magazine list as one of the 100 best English language novels from 1923 to 2005.
With funding for projects getting increasingly difficult co-production is of vital importance to the future financing of Irish films and television production. At Swim Two Birds is expected to go into production in early 2012, providing a much need boost to the Irish film Industry, 2011 have proved to be one of the poorest years for film production in Ireland over the past two decades. It’s not yet know if the entire project will be done in Ireland, Irish Production Company Parallel Films have been attached to the project from the beginning.
