The best piece of contemporary theatre I have seen in recent years was Freefall, it was part of the 2009 Ulster Bank Theatre festival at the Project Arts Centre.
In a series of flashbacks, a middle-aged man brings you on a journey of his life as he lies trapped in a paralysed state following a stroke. The use of images from a mini cam giving a perspective of the main character as he lays in a paralysed state, was an interesting touch. It’s a truly moving story as we revisit his youth, his college days, his marriage which coming apart – his life in freefall.
Both funny and sad, you really feel connected with the character and what his inevitable fate will be.
It’s coming back for a 2010 tour, if you get an opportunity do go along and see it you will not be disappointed.
