Retain Arts as a full cabinet ministry

If you want Arts as part of the portfolio of a full Cabinet minister write to An Taoiseach this week, feel free to copy my letter below send it to

Department of the Taoiseach,
Government Buildings,
Upper Merrion Street,
Dublin 2

10 March 2010

An Taoiseach,

Due to the recent withdrawal of some Minister’s from the cabinet you have indicated your intention to shortly carry out a cabinet reshuffle. Newspaper speculation has suggested that The Ministry of Arts, Sport and Tourism may be abolished.

Last September at The Global Irish Economic Forum at Farmleigh, Irish diaspora present, acknowledged the need to develop a smart economy. It also recognized the cultural value of Irish artistic success through our writers, poets, musicians, actors, and moviemakers in building Ireland’s international profile.

The retention of this Department as a full Ministry is essential in terms of the economy, jobs, international identity and the delivery of the social and human needs of the people of Ireland. The cultural sector has and will continue to play a substantial role in the survival and eventual recovery of this country.

I would urge you to consider this when you are deciding on the formation of a new Cabinet.
